Why is the Ford Escape Such a Popular SUV?

Since the Ford Escape was first introduced to the United States market, it has become one of North America’s best-selling small SUV vehicles. This is a superb achievement when you consider the large volume of competing automobiles that are in this vehicle niche – many of which have been in the consumer market for years already and are well-established.  But, Ford definitely looks to have a real knack when it comes to releasing SUVs that tend to appeal to a very wide range of driver.

Combines Both Style and Functionality

What they have managed to do with the Escape is combine both the styling and also four-wheel-drive capabilities of a standard and traditional SUV – but actually with the size, sensibility, and driving character of what should be a mid-sized car.  This means that it has universal appeal for both someone who lives in the city that wants a comfortable and versatile motor that makes driving fun – but will also work if used off-road or when towing heavy loads.  The Ford Escape fits the bill perfectly and has a low price point which makes it an even more appealing purchase for consumers.

But Are There Any Negative Points?

If there were some negatives to report on the Ford Escape it’s the fact that even with the release of the 2012 model it’s not really made any huge strides on the design since the last major update in 2008.  The interior is still pretty basic, although the latest models are starting to come with the Ford Navigation System included – although even this comes with a hidden cost as every year the driver will need to buy a new Ford Escape Navigation DVD with new maps on it.

The New Ford Escape for 2012

The latest version does come highly recommended though.  It has a very light-duty four-wheel-drive system with a completely independent suspension unit and there’s also the unique uni-body construction worth mentioning. However, it is still better suited for on-road rather than off-road driving.  The build of this SUV was conducted in partnership with the Japanese manufacturer Mazda – so if you see a Mazda Tribute on the road you will notice how similar it looks to the Escape – they are essentially the same car – albeit with differences to the interior and trim.

Three Different Trims Available

The Ford Escape comes in three different trim options.  You can choose from the following model styles:

  • XLS Escape
  • XLT Escape
  • Limited Escape

Despite the different options available there are some standards which are the same across all models.  For example you will get 16 inch alloys, power accessories, also cruise control and very efficient air con.  All of these factors contribute to why the Ford Escape is one of the country’s most popular SUVs – and that looks set to continue for years to come.  However, if you do want other options from rival manufacturers then look for SUVs from brands such as Honda, Mazda, and Nissan – the Japanese brands are making some headway, but currently Ford are just edging them for the moment.
