Tips for Selecting A Tent For Camping

One of the most important things to bring with you when you go camping is a tent or some other type of camping shelter in case the weather gets bad or there are lots of bugs.  However, anyone who has gone out and compared different cheap tents knows that this can be an overwhelming task, especially if you haven’t gone camping at all or only once or twice.  To make it a little easier here are a couple of guidelines to help you select a tent that is best for you.
1st, you have to determine what size tent you need.  If it is just you a 1 man tent should be fine but if you are camping with other people you obviously need to get the size that is appropriate for your group.  Another important thing you need to determine is how heavy or light it is.  If you plan on walking into your campsite you need a light one but if you aren’t you can get a heavier one.

2nd, make sure it is equipped to protect you against any bad weather you might encounter.  To do this look for tents that include rain flys and footprints.  One goes over the top of the tent to help water from getting in and the other goes underneath so that water doesn’t seep through the bottom.

3rd, look for a reputable brand that has been making camping equipment for a long time.  A brand like Coleman has shown that they make quality gear that is good for camping and that campers want to have.

4th, make sure it is going to circulate the air.  This is extremely important if you want to camp comfortably.  Just look for things like lots of windows, doors and mesh.  These things let the air come in and out of the tent and cool it down so it doesn’t get hot and muggy inside.
