Sterling Silver Hoop Earrings

For whatever reason, it would seem that gold is becoming less and less popular these days. Perhaps it has to do with the price of gold, which has been going up at an alarming rate. This certainly makes a lot of sense, because as gold becomes more and more costly to purchase, fewer jewellers are going to buy it – and so gold jewellery is going to become harder to find, and therefore more expensive. Ultimately, it is the customers that pay for the rises in the price of gold, not the jewellers.

However, the fact that gold is disappearing from the mainstream consciousness is not necessarily a bad thing at all, because it allows other metals to compete – metals which are much more fashionable than gold. In particular, it must be said that we have always been a fan of silver. Silver has often been underrated and seen as gold’s little brother, but we feel that is an unfair comparison. In fact, we think silver is the star of the show.

There are a lot of reasons for which we argue this. For one thing, gold is too bright, too loud, and too obnoxious. It is okay in small doses, but generally gold just tends to overwhelm everything around it, and unbalance everything right about an outfit or jewellery arrangement. Silver, on the other hand, is a much more elegant metal that actually complements other colours. Picture a woman wearing a pair of hoop earrings made of gold – absolutely garish. You would not be able to look at her face without seeing the gold earrings. Now picture that same woman with silver hoop earrings – a much more pleasant image. For whatever reason, sterling silver earrings tend to frame a face and give it structure and beauty, rather than detract from it the way gold does. There is something about silver that is simply more sophisticated, something that even the finest goldsmiths cannot replicate. And guess what? It’s cheaper, too.
