Medical Gooseneck Lamps

When people think of gooseneck lamps, often their first thought is of the student lamp, the typical gooseneck lamp that sits on many people’s desks and performs an admirable task of lighting that area.  In more recent years there have been quite a few gooseneck lamps designed for home living areas, including table, wall and floor gooseneck lamps.  However, gooseneck lamps have been in use in the medical industry for years.

The flexible gooseneck lamp is perfect to use for medical examinations and procedures.  It is designed to bend and direct light in any direction, thus no matter what part of a body is being examined, the lamp can be brought close enough to illuminate the patch of skin or body part without any problems.  They are also often used in operating theaters, emergency wards, obstetrics and just about every other department in a hospital or clinic.

Aside from the very large lamps that are mounted on walls or on huge mounts with wheels, the smaller medical gooseneck lamp is quite easy to move and to manipulate. They are often made with a very small shade on top, and mounted on a base that has wheels attached, allowing them to easily move from location to location even using one hand. They are designed specifically for ease of use. In other words, they are made in such a way that a medical officer or nurse seated by a bedside, with one hand holding an instrument can easily reach out with the other hand and wheel the lamp closer or adjust the position of the lamp.

Often the chrome support is also adjustable so that the lamp can be set at a different height. Some lamps have a single bulb, however because illumination is very important during most medical procedures the lamp will often have one inner bulb that is surrounded by a circle of smaller bulbs, providing optimum and even lighting.

The gooseneck lamp is certainly perfect when it comes to providing safe and sufficient lighting for use by the medical profession.
