The Amazon Kindle makes for easy and economical reading and so, it is an all-round beneficial device for everyone, including children. That said, the Kindle should be protected against falls, especially when a child is in charge of it. Kids love making their own stuff, so why not let them make a cover for their Kindle? Here are some interesting ideas for Kindle covers for kids that can be made at home. Not only will they serve to protect the device, but they can also be personalized with covers that children can be proud to show off.

Although somewhat protected with a basic cover, a homemade Kindle cover will provide added protection, as well as make it more unique. With materials you likely already have at home, you will be able to create a great cover. Simply use old notebook cover, possibly made of vinyl or something similar, so long as there is a flexible spine. Just remove the internal pages, measure it for the perfect fit and cut to size. Adorn it with with stylish printed paper, wrapping paper, stickers or clippings of pictures from magazines. With the latter, choose a theme, like your child’s favorite celebrities, for instance.

Still using an old notebook cover, cut it to size and cover with an attractive piece of fabric, using fabric glue. An old pair of jeans can be cut to size for a casual and rugged look. It can be further customized with patches of other fabric, too.  This idea can also be used with vinyl or leather.

Some other interesting ideas to use for kids Kindle covers include felt sleeves, which could also be themed sleeves for the different seasons, perhaps. For instance, before the Christmas holidays, make a red felt sleeve to look like a Christmas stocking. For Easter, lamb cutouts could be hot glued to a contrasting colored sleeve. A patriotic sleeve can also be made for Independence Day, using the colors of the flag. All that is required is to sew the three sides of the felt leaving the top opened to slide the Kindle in and out easily. The rest is a matter of using fabric glue to dress it up with contrasting colors and cutouts of felt.

Quilted cases can also be made with somewhat more effort and  imagination. Is there a knitter in your family? You can knit a quick Kindle sock by adapting a sock or leg warmer pattern. The beauty of these covers is that they are inexpensive and so, can be changed frequently. Another plus is that they get your child interested in creating new things. Whether they are made as covers that fold over or as simple sleeves, all of these ideas make for beautiful Kindle covers for kids that also serve to protect the investment.
