Apple iPad vs Kindle DX

If you’re still undecided between an iPad and the Kindle DX from Amazon, here’s a simple comparison between the two.

Apple iPad, at first glance, looks just like an e-book reader! It’s bigger than an iPod touch but not quite as big as a netbook. Both the Kindle DX and Apple iPad have a 9.7-inch display screen but there is where the similarities end. While the iPad screen is a full-colored multi-touch screen, the Kindle is not. The screen on the DX makes use of the electronic-ink technology that simulates the looks of real paper. This actually gives you a feeling that you’re actually holding a book and reading it which is the reason why I bought it in the first place.

At first glance it may seem that there is no way that Kindle DX can compare to the newest Apple gadget. Not only iPad can be used to read e-books (e-magazines, newspaper, etc) in full color, but also to surf the web, listen to favorite music and yes, checking my email on the go. The Kindle DX on the other hand is a plain e-book reader.

If you are looking for an e-book reader that can do a whole lot of awesome things, it is of no doubt that the Apple iPad will make an excellent buy. On the other hand, if you are a hardcore reader and would like to have an e-book reader specifically dedicated to reading books or magazines, the Amazon Kindle DX would be the perfect device for that purpose. And if you are a night time reader, add a kindle cover with light to the shopping list!

It is more comfortable to read on the Kindle for prolonged periods of time thanks to the nature of its screen. Beside the DX is also much more portable with its very long battery life which can last up to 2 weeks on one full charge.

Here’s my take! iPad is cool. I think it is awesome but it isn’t going to replace my Macbook anytime soon. Even though you can buy iPad accessories like keyboard dock that could almost turn it into a laptop, iPad isn’t designed for real work. But one thing is for sure, I travel light now without my DX and Macbook. The iPad is my new travel companion.
